Hirah Park is an artist and art instructor based in New York City and Northern New Jersey. Her work (comes from / works through / explores) personal questions and unresolved contemplations from her past and present.

current content and themes of work include:
asian american passivity and other cultural tendencies
taboos between spirituality and worldliness in the context of the Christian faith
own identity, immediate community, general audience, challenging norms
conflict between mind, body, and soul
self awareness
self therapy
coping mechanisms
vulnerability

Park’s studio practice is significantly informed by her teaching practice of 8 years, often informing each other. In working with art school prospective students through portfolio development, Park’s collaborative approach has helped students achieve self-awareness, specificity, and vulnerability in their work that asks questions and continues a specific conversation.

In painting, drawing, and sound collage, select memories are abstracted and exported as a visual testimony, often already fabricated to a degree upon constant recall. They’re usually trivial episodes drawn from her current season, yet relevant - calling to be mulled over, processed, and purged.
Each painting is a screenshot of the current state of her internal world, serving as a gesture for her audience to look inwards.
